The Mass Spectrometry (MS) Facility provides both instrumentation and expertise for analyses ranging from confirmation of identity and purity of small organics to proteomics involving very large biomolecules. We provide rapid, reliable services to investigators from Notre Dame, other academic institutions, and industry.

A well-maintained, modern suite of instruments allows the MS Facility to offer a wide range of analyses, including low resolution spectra, high resolution accurate mass measurements, GC/MS, LC/MS, and LC/MS/MS. Available ionization techniques include electron ionization (EI), chemical ionization (CI), fast atom bombardment (FAB) matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF), and electrospray ionization (ESI). Several instruments are available on an open-access basis to trained users.

For demanding analytical problems, the MS Facility provides relevant expertise in the areas of MS and chromatography. A full-time senior technician is available to handle routine service samples, and Ph.D. level experts are available to tackle more invloved projects.
